Automotive Car Care

A guide for a quality detail of your vehicle!

Cleaning The Interior
Cleaning the interior on the vehicle before washing the exterior will eliminate water getting inside making cleaning much easier. Interior care consists of: disposing of trash, vacuuming, cleaning and vinyl / leather conditioning.

REMOVE TRASH
Remove all trash. Empty all ashtrays. Use caution when reaching under seats.

DRY BRUSH & VACUUM
Remove floor mats. With a brush, agitate any spots or stains on the carpet and fabric to loosen the dirt. Vacuum out the interior and trunk thoroughly. Shake any loose dirt from the floor mats, then brush/vacuum them as well.

HEAVILY SOILED AREAS
Use a suitable cleanser and brush on the affected area blotting up the dirt with a towel. Test the cleaner on the fabric in a out of sight place first.

CLEAN ALL VINYL / LEATHER
Test the vinyl / leather cleaner in an inconspicuous area before applying through out interior. Wipe dry with a clean, soft towel.

CLEAN CARPETS & SEATS
First vacuum thoroughly. A lint brush or roller can be use to help remove dog / cat hair. A stain remover and brush can be use when needed, make sure to vacuum up all excess moisture.

DRESS THE VINYL (optional)
To restore original beauty to vinyl upholstery, dashboards, door panels, air vents, and other vinyl parts, use a
waterborne polymer siloxane or amino solutions. These will not dry out and crack the vinyl.

CONDITION THE LEATHER (if applicable)
Condition and protect the interior leather. Some leather is "clearcoated". "That is correct" just like styled wheels, and paint. Use the wrong product and you can damage and shorten the life of the leather. Never assume all leather is clearcoated, for example the 1996 Jaguars were not clearcoated. To test the leather:
  1. Take some interior cleaner and rub in on an area on the underside of the seat.
  2. If you see the color of the leather on your cloth-use a cleaner with "feeding oils".
  3. If no color shows, use a waterborne polymer style dressing, let it dry and then buff with a clean towel.

STAIN GUARD THE UPHOLSTERY (optional)
Make sure fabric upholstery is completely clean and dry. Mist stain guard evenly and allow to dry. Repeat process if desired. Do not saturate the area. Not for use on leather, vinyl or hard plastic.

Cleaning The Exterior
Environmental factors like nitrous oxide and sulfur dioxide emissions from power plants, car exhaust and air pollution from industrial plants are trapped in rain water making acid rain.

This acid rain is a very dilute form of nitric and sulfuric acids. The sun dries water droplets containing these acids; and, as the water evaporates, the acids concentrate. The concentrated acid then penetrates the clearcoat dissolving the resin and forming a pit. Left untreated, the concentrated acid can continue into the basecoat destroying the pigment.

Bird droppings contain a byproduct called uric acid. This alkaline, if left non-neutralized, can penetrate the clearcoat and cause damage.

Alkaline water marks are also a common paint problem on today’s automotive finishes. Hard water spots are calcium and magnesium salts that deposit on the paint after the water has evaporated. These are white rings of minute crystals that bond to the paint. They are not redissolvable in water. Harsh detergents found in some car wash soaps contain sodium silicate or sodium hydroxide may etch the surface of the clearcoat leaving white residue or dulling the entire finish.

WASH TIRES
Spray under wheel wells and under carriage to remove any road salt or grime. Apply tire cleaner if needed and scrub tires and rims.
(We recommend doing this first as some tire cleaners may damage paint if not rinsed off as soon as possible)

WASH CAR
Rinse the car first to remove as much dust and dirt as you can. Start at the roof of the car and work your way down to the bottom.  Using a wash mitt and a bucket with diluted
car wash soap, start scrubbing on the roof and work your way down to the bottom of the car. Rinse off all of the soap. (The car wash soap should have a ph level of around 7 to neutralize any acids or alkali).

DRY OFF CAR
Dry off the car with a chamois or bath towel. You can first use a squeegee with a soft silicone blade to speed up the time that is required to do this.
(Do not let the car drip dry, this will cause water spots that can damage paint)

TIRE DRESSING
Apply tire dressing. Use a tire dressing that is a
waterborne polymer siloxane or amino. Tire dressings that use petroleum distillates can actually damage tires and stain the rims. (Do not get any of the dressing on the brake rotors or pads as it can cause braking concerns. Some tire dressings attract brake dust actually making your tires and rims look dirty faster)

WAXING YOUR CAR
Putting a coat of wax on your car two times a year will help defend against acid rain, bird droppings, water spots, tree sap and the list goes on.
